Using Honey for Oily Skin

Honey is a natural ingredient packed with beauty and health benefits. This powerhouse of essential nutrients nourishes the skin. Honey for oily skin is just one of the things you can use the ingredient for. Even dry skin can also benefit from the antibacterial and antiseptic properties of honey.

How Honey Benefits Oily Skin

Your skin becomes oily because of an overactive sebaceous gland. Sebum is a waxy substance that works as the natural moisture barrier of the skin. However, overproduction of sebum can result in oily skin, acne, and pimples. Honey absorbs moisture from the environment and locks into the skin, therefore, keeping it well hydrated and moisturized. In this, it prevents the over-production of sebum and keeps skin oiliness at bay.

Moreover, honey can balance the pH level of the skin, keeping it healthy and flawless. It keeps your skin soft and supple without imparting any oiliness. Its antioxidant content allows it to protect your skin from the harmful impacts of free radicals.

How to Use Honey for Oily Skin

Honey can be used for oily skin in many ways. These include the following:

  • Cleaning oily skin. Honey has natural cleansing properties for the skin. It can eliminate dirt and impurities in the skin as well as open up clogged pores. You can use honey with milk to cleanse your oily skin. Just take 1-2 tablespoons of each and mix them nicely. Then, apply the mixture on your face. Massage it for a few minutes and leave it on until it gets dry. Use a wet washcloth to remove it from your face and splash some cold water on your face.

  • Cleansing skin pores. With oily skin, clogged pores are a common issue. Excess oil on the face, together with dead skin cells and dirt, gets accumulated on the pores. The oil is then blocked, resulting in acne, blackheads, pimples, and whiteheads. To use honey for cleansing the pores, add a tablespoon of raw honey to two tablespoons of jojoba oil. Apply the concoction to your skin. Gently massage for a few minutes in a circular motion. Then, rinse off with plain water.
  • Moisturizing the skin deeply. Honey contains natural enzymes that let it get absorbed into the skin and condition it from deep within. Using honey regularly for oily skin results in softer, more supple, and more balanced skin. You can use plain honey by massaging your skin with a teaspoon of it and keeping it on for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with fresh, cool water.
